MSM is highly effective but you have to use it with care if you are a do-it-yourselfer. I bought it to kill buttonweed which is very invasive. Second, if you are using on St. Augustine (I'm in Texas) know that this will likely turn the turf chlorotic for 4-5 weeks. If that is unacceptable to you don't use MSM!
According to the product label it will kill dollar weed. When applying I used the measuring cup provided to the 0.2 level of granules dissolved in a 4 gallon sprayer as suggested by the representative I spoke to. It has been about a month since the application and it has had a definite impact on the dollar weed. It has turned a bright yellowish-green and doesn’t seem to be spreading. I assume that means it’s dying, but I’m not sure and it is taking a long time. I applied a second application a couple of days ago.
Surf ’n Turf
Although not labeled for poa annua, it works for poa annua. I've worked in the industry for 17 years, the same ingredient is what we used on poa annua and fescue clumps. It's not the quickest, but it does work, and at a cost effective price. I use it on zoysia up to .67 oz per acre with no ill effects to turf.
Some stunting of Zoysia will occur if you broadcast spray during hot weather, but it is short lived and the turf seems to rebound quickly. Since then, most years I don’t have to spray for Buttonweed at all, and when I have it has only been light spot spraying in early summer. Also, it may not be completely clear from the description, but this product is in dry form, so “oz.” refers to the unit of weight, not fluid ounces. Live in a community 30 miles north of Houston Texas. My St. Augustine yard was being taken over by dollar weed.
MSM Turf Herbicide (Manor)
Manor says it's safe, but I haven't seen centipede listed for this product. I usually tell my customers to wait 24 hours. I have sprayed MSM and a shower came out of nowhere 4 hours later and the product still did it's job.
Some chlorosis or stunting of the turfgrass may occur following application. When I ordered this product a year ago it came with a measuring cup in the shape of a cone and you could figure out .02 oz. Let me also state that this Product has delivered awesome results. Are used to treat dollar weed in two different lawns and it completely wiped them out without harming the grass. We are spot spraying for specific weeds and not broadcast spraying.

I have a 1 gallon sprayer and a lot slightly smaller than .25 acres. Tank mixes with other registered herbicides should be tested for compatibility before full scale mixing. Use mechanical or bypass agitation to thoroughly mix the spray suspension. It is not necessary to premix this product with water in a separate container prior to adding it to the spray tank.

FIFA Confederations Cup
Was getting worse year after year, but two spot applications at full strength killed it. No damage to Zoysia, slight temporary yellowing to Bermuda and heavy yellowing to St. Augustine. Use an electronic scale to measure small mixes (1-4 gal) in grams, or the included measure for larger batches. Apply 0.25 to 1.0 oz of MSM Turf Herbicide per acre for weed control.
It took about three to four weeks to completely die off and I didn't need a second application. I'm very happy with the results of this product. It didn't harm any of the grass species in my yard, just the weeds. I applied the prescription rate on my St Augustine grass yard in Jacksonville, Florida to control the dollar weed, and it did not appear to kill any of the weed after three weeks.
Im going to follow up with another application in a few weeks. Does MSM Turf come with a measuring cup to measure out .02 oz? We just use a pump sprayer and when it's empty we rince it out throughly. Works excellent on dollar weed, but takes a couple weeks to see results. I used .05 ounce in 2 gallons of water to treat dollarweed - worked great. Our grass is still growing especially Virginia Buttonseed.
